Style | Beckett Simonon Review | Valencia Wholecuts

Hey it’s Derek with Derek Grown Man Style!

If someone had told me a year ago I’d own a pair of Wholecuts I would have laughed.  First of all a year ago and didn’t really know that cut of shoe existed.  I’m not a long time style and fashion veteran so I’ve slowly been learning more about the various shoe styles beyond the classic oxfords, brogues and wingtips.

And now I own a pair of Beckett Simonon Valencia Wholecuts and I couldn’t love them and appreciate this cut more.

Wholecuts are rare and highly prized for a reason; they are the most difficult shoes to make.

Over 100 manual steps go into creating the Valencias, and every one needs to be precisely executed. One mistake and the process has to start all over again.

There is no room for errors

It’s like walking a tightrope without a net. The stakes are that high.

Wholecuts are the most formal style a man can own. The absence of ornamentation puts the leather on full display, and accentuates a tapered silhouette

The Valencias are left on the last (foot-shaped mold) for 120 hours. This is virtually unheard of because it uses up valuable space and time. It is well worth it.

When I unboxed my brown Valencias I was an immediate fan of the clean simple lines and the fit was superb. They have such a high end look but work well to elevate a dressy office outfit of dark denim or slim fit chinos.

If you’ve ever wondered if Wholecuts belong in your collection of footwear, wonder no longer and invest in a pair from Beckett Simonon. Here's why:

  • The uppers and linings are made of Argentinian full grain leather

  • Hand-made one at a time.

  • Resoleable Blake construction.

  • Sturdy and resoleable leather soles

  • Extra durable leather heel stacks.

  • Rubber heel caps for better traction.

  • Waxed cotton laces.

  • Dust bags included - one for each shoe which I think is a big deal. I don’t want my beautiful shoes rubbing against each other as their resting in the box.

They are a Make To Order Shoe Company -  It takes approximately 8-10 weeks to make and ship a pair of shoes - from the sourcing of the leather, the cutting and tanning price to the actual construction of the shoes - it is a meticulous process. Think you can’t wait that long for something this good? Trust me you can and you won’t regret it. The great news is that they send you updates along the way to keep the excitement and anticipation up throughout the entire process.
