Style | Beckett Simonon Review | Columbus Boots in Tan, Domingo Duffle Bag in Tan

I'll be reviewing two pieces from my favorite leather goods brand Beckett Simonon.

As an Affiliate of Beckett Simonon I have the opportunity to receive and review shoes, boots and accessories from their brand on a regular basis. In times past they offered a limited selection of their products during their monthly campaigns, so you never knew when a particular piece will be in rotation. It made each piece a bit of a collector's item, but I often longed to try out certain pieces that never seemed to come into the campaigns.

This October they opened their entire collection in every campaign and it was such a joy to see every single piece on display and available to try out.

This "aligning of the stars" allowed me to try out two pieces that are beautiful on their own but really shine when showcased together.

So let's talk about the Tan Columbus Boots

The most classic finish for most leather footwear is a well polished smooth leather There's something eye-intoxicating about the way the light plays off the long smooth section of leather upper on smooth shoes and boots. Look at the wholecut - a single piece of smooth leather with no breaks in the beautiful leather action.

Then there's the rugged pebble grain leather that can't help but to get your attention as well. The texture that it creates is spellbinding and the finish handles like armor taking daily nicks and bumps like a warrior.
Most shoes make you choose one and enjoy it on its own....until now.

The Columbus boot gives you the very best of both worlds - pebble grain shafts wraps around your ankle and transitions into a smooth leather vamp giving the entire boot a unique character that makes it stand out from the crowd.
My first impression visually was "WOW!!". It's a beautiful boot and you literally can't wait to put it on. And when they're on your feet, your feet with sing. Like every boot and shoe from Beckett Simonon the fit is superb and there's literally zero break in period required. And I'm a massive fan of their tan finish. Some people prefer a less orange tan finish, but I think it's the orange tones that give it such a pop, especially when paired with darker tones in your clothing.
Beyond my anecdotal thoughts on these boots, here are some specifications that further prove the merits of the Columbus:

  • Full-grain Argentinian leather that is soft, durable and conditioned with shea butter and carnauba wax for a deep color with a natural luster.

  • Blake stitching that makes the boot sturdy yet extremely comfortable shoe and easy to resole when the time comes.

  • Buttery smooth Vachetta leather lining allows your feet to breathe, regulates temperature and absorbs moisture.

  • Rubber soles that offer excellent abrasion resistance. Plus, the extra grippiness and added shock absorption are ideal for all seasons.

These boots are ready for work, play, travel or whatever you want to throw at them. If you happen to be traveling though, this next piece is worth partnering up.

The Domingo Duffle Bag

I travel quite a bit for my job and I treat a travel day as an extension of my work day. When I walk out of the house and into the world I try to look my very best and be thoughtful in how I present myself. I take that same attention to the airport and while most opt for joggers and a hoodie, I'm comfortable and stylish and I expect my luggage to support me in those efforts.
I've always wanted a high quality leather duffle bag for quick 2-3 days trips. Leather is as classic as it gets, and there's nothing cooler and more masculine that striding down the airport hallway dapper with a boss duffle bag on your shoulder.
The Domingo Duffle bag is that travel partner you've been looking for.

Luggage for travel must be durable above all. Short of carrying your clothes in a metal case, we all need a bag that can take the bumps and dings of modern travel - from being smashed into crowded overhead bin to be tossed onto a security conveyor belt. It has to take a beating and still function.  The Domingo bag meets all those requirements and more. You can tell when you handle the bag that it was solidly built and it won't let you down in the middle of a hectic travel day.
The pebble grain finish of this bag looks rugged and gives me a lot of confidence that the natural aging of this bag will only improve its looks over time.
A few spec details about the Domingo Duffle Bag:

  • Dimensions - Length: 20". Height: 10.5". Width: 10.2". I found the bag to be extremely spacious. I'm not a small guy and neither are my clothes. I need a bag that can hold a few days of outfits and maybe a size 13 shoe or boot and this bag is up for the challenge. If you're not using all that interior space you can snap down the edges for a very svelte, compact look.

  • The bag is made of full grain Argentinian leather. The pebble grain finish give the entire bag a beautiful durability for any traveling challenge

  • Hardware is as important as the leather and the Domingo sports - All the hardware is solid brass - beautiful and built to last. The Japanese YKK zippers and thick and solid. They are a bit firm at first, but after a few uses they loosen up well. They don't feel like they're going to bind or jump off track at all.

  • The inside is lined with heavy duty cotton twill fabric to hold and protect all your precious travel gear

So now when you see the Columbus Boots and the Domingo Duffle bag both in tan, you can see what a beautiful pair they make.
