Style | Beckett Simonon Review | Nolan Brogues - Oak

Hey it's Derek with Derek Grown Man Style!

I'm such a fan of the wingtip! My love for this kind of shoe is in line with my love for complex watch faces. Plain is just....plain. I'm drawn to details, complexity and variety. Yes a wholecut or plain toe derby is a feat of leather handling, but the perforations and scalloping on a pair of wingtips just creates a tapestry of creative edges that I simply adore!

A couple of weeks ago I received an E-mail from Beckett Simonon announcing their latest Seconds sales - Factory seconds are products that have slight cosmetic marks on their surfaces or that have minor imperfections such as misaligned/uncentered labels. These superficial flaws have not caused structural damage nor do they affect product quality and durability. In the great majority of cases they are imperceptible but are not offered as top quality shoes. I benefited by choosing my dream pair of boots - the Nolan Brogues and saved $100 off the regular price. Now some people might balk at the "Slight imperfections" or "Final Sale" nature of the Seconds sales, but I was more than willing to step up and take advantage of this amazing sale and get my hands on my dream boots. After close inspection I only noticed the slightest color variation in one small area. It was barely noticeable and certainly disappear from normal viewing distance.

Now let's talk about this color - Oak.

It’s not exactly brown. It’s not exactly bordeaux. And, it definitely isn’t red. ⠀

The color Oak is a hue born from a touch of brown, a taste of bordeaux, and an accent of red.  It's a striking color that catches the eye and pairs nicely with a palette of fall earth tones.

So in case it's not obvious I'm in love with everything about this boot - the amazing price, the quality even though it was sold as Seconds (no imperfections found), the alluring Oak color, the fit....and oh the wingtip broguing!!

These boots came at the perfect time as we are slowly but surely moving into fall weather here in the south. These boots will be welcome pieces as the sweaters and other layers start to come out.
